Wu Jie

Wu Jie is of Mongolian nationality. He was born in December 1935 in Hohhot, capital of the Inner Autonomous Region. He studied at Beijing Foreign Languages Institute in 1954-1955 and spent five years in the Soviet Union (1955-1960) studying Physical Engineering.

He joined the Second Ministry of Machine-Building in 1960 and was first assigned in Inner Mongolia. In 1980-1982, he studied management science in United States (University of California).

Member of the Communist Party, he was Vice-Mayor of Chifeng (Inner Mongolia) from 1983 to 1985, then Mayor of Baotou (1985-1989), the largest city in Inner Mongolia with about 900,000 inhabitants.He was then appointed Deputy Governor of Shanxi Province (1989-1993). He was a deputy at the Eight National People's Congress (1993) and was appointed one of the four Vice-Ministers of the State Commission for Restructuring the Economic System.

He is the author of several books and the chief Editor of the "China Economic systems reform yearbook".
